POVERTY and CORRUPTION In South Rural Florida | South Bay
South Bay, Florida is in far western Palm Beach County. The city is about 45 miles west of West Palm Beach, and 75 miles northwest of Miami. However, it’s only 1.5 miles south of Lake Okeechobee, and in fact, the town is named after the South Bay of the giant lake. South Bay is a good reminder of how rural poverty exists more than most of us realize here in the United States. I’ve been to around half of the lower 48 at this point in my life and I feel safe in saying that there’s multiple South Bay’s in every state, especially in the south. It’s kind of depressing when you think about these small rural towns and think about what the future will look like, but only time will tell.
