We left the harbor of Funchal, Madeira at 5 a.m. in the morning heading out to the open Atlantic Ocean. Now our research cruise M152 with the Research Vessel or Forschungsschiff METEOR has officially started!
Leaving the last piece of land behind we won’t see anything but water for at least the next two days. Now that we are out on the ocean it is time for the safety instructions and the safety drill. Suit up the life vests!
And well… I already got seasick. But no time to think about that, a lot of work is waiting for us. We prepare all the labs and the coring equipment’s so that we can start working right away once we arrive our field area. First we put together the so called vibrocorer, which I’ll explain in the next video (stay tuned for that!).
Then we got some time to get used to the ship and explore. For example the bridge and the deck. Well you have beautiful spots to watch the sunset on board!
