After sailing two days across the Atlantic Ocean starting from Madeira, we reached the Algarve coast of Portugal. Here is our first coring site. We will core offshore for deposits since the last glacial maximum, as offshore archives are perfect climate archives. Watch us using two different coring techniques on board of the research vessel Meteor. Vibra-coring is a corer using an electric motor for vibration, to core an aluminum pipe in the ocean floor. While gravity coring is just using its own weight of two tons to core. This are 72 hours of very hard work in shifts.
Episode III of this series deals with the offshore coring of this research cruise M152 the “core” part of this project.
