Your Next Step After Level 30
Congratulations on hitting Level 30! Your next priority is to upgrade your gear as quickly as possible. In DC Universe Online, your Combat Rating (CR) is the key to unlocking new episodes and quests. Each area of the game has a specific CR requirement, so a higher CR gives you access to more content and better rewards.
Most players do not realize that you do not need to spend any Source Marks in order to get the better gear, and you CANNOT buy better gear in the Marketplace. So where do you get the better gear? Each Episode has a level range. The Vendors in each Episode are free to go to and easy to find.
DC Universe features different episodes and Events that rotate throughout the year so be aware of that schedule as you play. This is the Key.
To upgrade your gear, always start with the most recent Events or Featured Episodes. These are the best places to farm for high-level gear.
Simply go to the vendor located in the current Event or Featured Episode. The quests you complete there will reward you with a specific currency (like Tarot Cards from the Justice League Dark Cursed Episode 46). Use this unique currency to purchase gear from the vendors—never use your Source Marks for gear at these locations.
A quick tip: I recommend buying the lowest-costing gear first. This will raise your average gear rating, which in turn boosts your Combat Rating (CR) and unlocks the next tier of gear from the vendor..
To continue progressing, you may find that it takes longer to reach the next tier of gear. A helpful tip is to check for your weakest piece of gear and prioritize upgrading it, as a lower-level item can drag down your overall Combat Rating (CR).
Occasionally, the Episode vendors may not have a specific piece of gear you need, such as a ring or a belt. If you find your average gear rating is stuck, you can visit Tempus Fuginaut in the House of Legends to purchase a piece of gear that will help you unlock the next tier.
In-Game Currency in DC Universe Online
DC Universe Online uses several forms of currency—a mix of tokens and cash—that you'll use to purchase items and gear from vendors. While some currency can be earned by defeating enemies and completing quests, others can only be obtained during specific events or within certain episodes. This system of currency allows for a wide variety of items to be available throughout the game.

The Currencies of DC Universe Online

Cash
This is the most common form of currency, earned by completing missions, defeating enemies, or selling items. You'll use it for almost everything, from buying basic gear and consumables to repairing your equipment. It's the only currency you can trade with other players.
Source Marks
Used to purchase Tier 1 through Tier 6 gear, including weapons and iconic battle suits. You can earn these by completing On Duty instances and various missions.
Episode-Specific Currencies
Each episode of the game has its own unique currency (like Tarot Cards or Fate Tokens). You earn these by completing quests within that episode and use them to purchase gear and items from that episode's vendors.
Daybreak Cash
This is the microtransaction currency used in the Marketplace. You can use it to buy things like Legends avatars, cosmetic styles, and various upgrades for your account.
Loyalty Points
A special currency for players with a Legendary membership on PlayStation and Xbox. You receive 500 Loyalty Points each month to spend on consumables, toys, and collectibles at the Skeets' Legendary Emporium kiosks.
Ally Favors
This is an account-wide currency used to fortify your Allies. All of your characters on your account can share and use these favors.
Marks of Valor
Used to purchase PvP gear, including Tier 1 through Tier 5 weapons and iconic PvP battle suits. You earn these by participating in Legends PvP, Arena PvP, and completing daily PvP quests.
Most Recent Episode as of this posting is The Justice League Dark Cursed Ep 46 Tarot Cards are the currency there. This will be your best choice for the highest level Gear to improve your Combat Rating the Fastest.
