Murray Lake UltraHD Winter
This wintertime nature video was captured entirely in UltraHD (4K) on a Samsung Note Edge smartphone.
This video was created largely as an experiment for the educational value it might be able to offer.
Editing and final rendering were performed on a custom built, 8 core PC running at 4.0GHz with a Windows 8.1 OS and 16GB of RAM.
The video production software was Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.
The final render pegged all 8 CPU cores and consumed over 6GB of RAM for roughly 20 minutes. The final video is three minutes and 14 seconds in duration with a file size of nearly 2.5GB.
The Samsung Note Edge smartphone is clearly capable of capturing excellent UltraHD (4K) video images. However, when in this mode, the phone turns off the Image Stabilization software and the effect of this is quite noticeable in the captured video stream. It also appears that it uses a very low bitrate.
The upload to YouTube appears to be on the order of about 30 minutes and I received a warning that my video would process faster if I encoded "into a streamable format".
This entire project is really a big experiment to see what can be done with 4K using the tool available to me at this time. I've enjoyed the challenge so far and I am eager to see how YouTube handles the stream. I'm also very curious to see ti stream to my Samsung 4K SmartTV via the built in YouTube app.
