My beloved cat Molly (who was always a kitten to me) has been my cheerleader and companion for the last 19 years. For a cat, she was an excellent listener - even after losing her hearing lol.

I'm sorry I've been absent. I haven't been well. I also apologize for sharing such personal things here - I know there are some of you who were fond of my little Molly bear so... if you don't like it don't watch it.

This is sad for me and my parents... devastating for me really - but not tragic. She lived a long, full, happy life. Crazy long. She was like, 120 in people years - not quite record breaking but well above average. She was an unexpected joy, and there were times she was my ONLY friend.

I have been going out of my way recently to cherish every interaction, as she was on borrowed time. I had to have her euthanized August 6th. She had been deaf, confused and arthritic until the morning of August 5 - no yowling. I had to wake her and it was as if she couldn't hold up her head. She refused to make eye contact, it seems like sitting was so painful she would crouch instead. Her voice was weak, her purr was weak... overnight it's like time caught up with her. Pretty much all the signs were there.

so I went to the emergency vet and I was planning to cover lab work X-rays overnight if necessary - just in case it was something treatable like diabetes or blood pressure or thyroid. But after the vet evaluated her... when she came in the room it was not a good look on her face. the vet had that look on her face. The look that people have when they're about to give someone really bad news.

Molly was in a lot of pain her kidneys were failing her cognitive functions were rapidly declining to the point that she may have been experiencing distress and that may have been why she was howling or part of it. hopefully not hopefully it was just because she couldn't hear a loud she was lol. The entire clinic the staff was amazing and I don't think they could have handled it better. Even in this end of life state Molly charmed them all with her sweet personality. What little of it she could muster.

My late ex-wife's birthday was Aug 1, and she passed away Aug 10. The last time I talked to her I'm pretty sure was August 6th.

I'm exhausted. I'm still a little numb. Molly came into my life when I was like 21 or 22 maybe. Before I even had my first job. Before I graduated college. she's been such a constant part of my life it does kind of feel like a piece just got ripped out. 5 stages of grief here we go...
