The USS Des Moines (CA-134) was the lead ship of the Des Moines-class heavy cruisers, built for the United States Navy shortly after World War II. Commissioned in November 1948, it was among the most advanced heavy cruisers of its time, featuring modern fire control systems and a high rate of fire, thanks to its innovative automatic loading mechanisms.
