The video session is on Vapour Absorption Refrigeration Cycle. It explains
a. VAR Cycle, Components and working
b. Advantages of VAR System
c. Disadvantages
d. Applications
VAR cycle works on heat as energy input. There is cooling effect due to it.
There is strong solution of refrigerant in generator which is heated by external energy source like steam or exhaust gas. The refrigerant having lower boiling point, evaporates from the solution and it passes to condenser where it looses heat to surrounding and condenses into liquid form. The liquid refrigerant is throttled to evaporator pressure through expansion device. The refrigerant evaporates at such low pressure in evaporator and produces desired cooling effect. These evaporator vapours then absorbed by weak solution coming from generator and the heat of absorption is released from absorber. The solution becomes concentrated in refrigerant and it then pumped to generator through a solution heat exchanger which transfers heat from hot solution from generator to solution from absorber.
The vapour absorption refrigeration system is used in
a. RVs : Recreational vehicles
b. VAM: Vapour absorption machines
