Setting goals on the guitar…
If you want to get somewhere you need to have a vision and a plan. Especially when things don’t come naturally to you.
Follow these steps and you WILL get better
1- Define a long term goal, however broad. This can be “I want to play the solo for Hotel California perfectly or I want to play like Mateus Asato”
2- Gain a sufficient understanding of music to break down this goal into categories of learning (Theory, technique, etc..)
3- Multiply your practice situations - practice does not happen just in your room with the metronome. It’s also about listening to good music, playing with other people, hanging out with musicians, etc.
4- Define a few concrete goals for each practice session. Make things specific so that you can see a finish line.
