This tutorial describes how to define variable in application context and you can use this variable as a Global variable in android, through the following steps:
1) we create a new project in an android studio with new project wizard and choose empty activity form the wizard in our project.
2) we create a class called GlobalClass.java that extends android.app.Application class, then we create two member variables with their setters and getters.
3) we go to the manifest and add the application class to the application tag.
3) we then go to activity_main.xml file and add a button.
4) then we go to MainActivity.java class and get the button, add click listener on it that goes to another activity when clicked and we set the email and the name values in our global class after we get it using getApplicationContext() method.
5) we create another activity called “SecondActivity”.
5) then we go to activity_second.xml file and we add four textviews.
6) in the SecondActivity.java we get the two text views, sets their text to the name and the email from our global class after we get it using getApplicationContext() method.
7) Finally we deploy and run the app to the android emulator.
Notes:
Android Application class: as described in the android documentations
1) it’s Base class for maintaining global application state. You can provide your own implementation by creating a subclass and specifying the fully-qualified name of this subclass as the "android:name" attribute in your AndroidManifest.xml's application tag. The Application class, or your subclass of the Application class, is instantiated before any other class when the process for your application/package is created.
2) There is normally no need to subclass Application. In most situations, static singletons can provide the same functionality in a more modular way. If your singleton needs a global context (for example to register broadcast receivers), include Context.getApplicationContext() as a Context argument when invoking your singleton's getInstance() method.
