If you are having trouble opening the After Effects projects that you export from Cinema 4D then you might be missing a plugin from Maxon.

You can find the plugin you’ll need to open the exported files from Maxon.net support downloads. I have added a link to the page in the description for your convenience.

Select the files that are appropriate for the version of Cinema 4D you are running. All the downloads contain the necessary files to accommodate for the version of After Effects you’re using; dating back to CS5.

Download and unzip the folder

Unzip the plugin file

Locate the plugin folder within your After Effect Application folders. Drag, drop or copy the plugin file into the After Effects plugin folder.

And that should do it. Assuming you have had the same problem I have had in the past, you should now be able to open the After Effects projects you export from Cinema 4D.

One last point; If you aren’t aware, Cinema 4D project settings are set to Linear Workflow as default; After Effects isn’t. And so, in order to view your render as you intended, you will need to turn on Linear Workflow within After Effects.
