iPhone iPad MacBook Microphone Review - Noyce One
In this video I review a new microphone for the iPhone, iPad, MacBook or really any smartphone or tablet, the Noyce One. It is the microphone used for this video.
Let's say you're shooting video with your smartphone or your video camera doesn't have a mic input, so you want to use your smartphone to capture the audio or you just want great sounding audio recordings on your smartphone or tablet.
You'll quickly learn there are a few problems. Like...not just any microphone will work...you need one with a TRSS connector. And when you find those, you'll discover 3 things:
1. You'll have to make a Frankenstein creation out of multiple parts for the mic.
2. They'll be cheap smartphone microphones that are so tempting, but they break shortly after getting them and sound bad.
3. You can spend a lot more for a good sounding mic, but you'll be disappointed that the quality doesn't match the price.
Enter the Noyce One. It aims to solve all of these problems.
My first impression of the Noyce One was how well it is built. The thing is like a little tank. It's solid, has weight and screams of quality. This is very different than most lav mics, which tend to feel cheap and have skinny cords that twist and break easily.
And when put to the real test...what it sounds like...it didn't disappoint. It had low-noise, rich sound and was excellent at isolating your voice...while limiting background noise.
As you can see (and hear) in the video, I also tested it head to head with it's main competitor, the RODE smartLav. In my opinion, it was clearly superior. Plus the cord didn't end up in knots, which happens with the RODE.
The only drawback with the Noyce One is that it's not yet available to the public. In this video (shot on April 30, 2015), I was using a pre-release model. I'm not sure when they'll be available for retail sale, but you can go to the Noyce website and sign-up to be notified. Here's the site:

The bottom line: If you're looking for a microphone for your iPhone, iPad, MacBook or most other smartphone and tablet devices (think Android), the Noyce One will be your best choice. It's honestly the best I've come across. You just have to wait for it to be released.
PLEASE NOTE: This microphone will NOT work with DSLR cameras, traditional video cameras, etc. It's designed to work with smartphones and tablets. It will work with all Apple devices. As far as Android devices, it should work with most.

This video was shot using a Canon 6D and Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 lens.
The audio was recorded using the Noyce One on an iPhone 5, using the native Voice Memo app on the iPhone.
The video was edited using Sony Vegas Pro 12.
