Michael P. Nagler - The Purpose of School in the Modern World
Superintendent Michael P. Nagler, Ed.D., was named the 2020 New York State Superintendent of the Year by the New York State Council of School Superintendents.
Dr. Nagler began his career as a social studies teacher at David A. Boody Junior High School. While learning the art of teaching he earned a masters degree in history and a professional diploma in Educational Administration, both from Brooklyn College. After completing his PD, Mike was appointed to assistant principal at David A. Boody. His aspirations to be a life-long learner led him to pursue a doctoral degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. Upon completion of his Ed.D., he accepted an assistant principal job at Mineola Middle school. After two years on the job, Mike was fortunate to become the principal of Mineola High School. During his tenure as principal the school’s regents results and acceptances into four year colleges reached their highest levels. Dr. Nagler then took the position of Deputy Superintendent of Mineola School District. His responsibilities included; personnel, technology, secondary school improvement. His achievements in those areas led him to become the Superintendent of Mineola schools on July 1, 2009. Mike is married and has two children.
