"We Hereby Refuse: Japanese American Resistance to Wartime Incarceration" is a graphic novel by Frank Abe that explores the stories of three Japanese Americans who resisted the U.S. government's unjust incarceration during World War II. Commissioned by the Wing Luke Museum in Seattle, the novel weaves together the experiences of Mitsuye Endo, who challenged her incarceration in a landmark Supreme Court case; Jim Akutsu, who resisted the draft from within a concentration camp; and Hiroshi Kashiwagi, who refused to answer a loyalty questionnaire. The graphic novel draws parallels between historical and contemporary instances of racial discrimination, highlighting the ongoing relevance of these stories.
