Human chromosomes and an overview of chromosomal disorders. There are 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes present inside the nucleus of the cell. Each pair of chromosomes contain 2 copies of sister chromatids derived from father and mother. There is a constricted region called centromere and on either side short arms 'p' and long arms 'q'. Chromosomal disorders are broadly classified into 2 types namely numerical and structural.
