In recent weeks, I've spoken to people who have decided for or against an abortion due to personal circumstances. But how do you make a decision when your doctor predicts a pregnancy with a "severely life-limiting or non-viable" prognosis—and a #lateabortion is an option?

This is the situation Christine and Moritz found themselves in. The two are married and were expecting a baby last year—definitely a planned baby. During a routine prenatal checkup in the 22nd week of pregnancy, the doctor diagnosed that something was wrong with the fetus in the womb. The brain wasn't properly developed. The child's chances of survival were not good. In such a situation, the doctor must also inform them about the possibility of a late-term abortion. But it quickly became clear to Christine and Moritz that they still wanted to have the child.

In the days following the birth, their daughter Mila had to stay in the intensive care unit. The couple received around-the-clock support from a palliative care team, who initially cared for them in the hospital and later also at home. Thirty-seven days after birth, little Mila died at home in her parents' arms.

I visited them in their apartment, where they gave me very personal insights into their time with Mila. They also spoke openly with me about the topic of abortion and late-term abortion and shared their thoughts and experiences.
If you want to know how Christine and Moritz are dealing with this loss and how they envision their future together, watch my new episode: "Late-term abortion? Diagnosis in the 22nd week of pregnancy."

This is The Question:

There are these big, tricky questions that have no easy answers. How do I cope with death? What's so exciting about a fetish? Should I be afraid of psychiatric care? I'm looking for answers to these questions, week after week, for you. I'm not satisfied with simple answers – I prefer to experiment, dig deeper, and go where things get uncomfortable. I don't ask experts; I'm mostly there: in psychiatric hospitals, at fetish parties, in rescue helicopters. A new episode airs every Tuesday at 1:00 PM.
