Castlevania (DOS) Speedrun
Hey folks, it's been a while since I've played DOStlevania, but I'm back! Big time thanks to Charlie9631 for motivating me to pick this game back up.
Execution of this run was nearly perfect. This new PB also includes the cave skip that was discovered about a year and a half ago. Just like in the 13:29 run, Stage 4 was more or less perfect and I had great luck with the Axe Knights in Stage 5 plus I went for the bone pillar boost as well. The only thing that could have really gone better in this entire fight was the Dracula fight.
First of all, I only had 23 hearts, but I was fortunate to get a large heart from a fireball which gave me the insurance I needed. I had a bad second cycle Dracula location which caused me to take a knockback at the beginning of the Cookie Monster fight. I could have tried to step back, but did not want to risk losing the two cycle Dracula.
A yummy input during the second cycle put me in danger of not getting the five cycle fight. Fortunately, the rest of the fight went well and I was still able to get a five cycle Cookie Monster, but oh if things would have just gone better for me, this would have easily been a sub 13:20!
This was an incredible run which puts me about 8.6 seconds away from my current sum of best. These splits during the first five stages will be extremely tough to run against, but I have a ton of time to save on the final stage. and will be nearly impossible to improve without a 4-cycle Cookie Monster. Nonetheless, I do believe a sub 13:20 is on the horizon for someone, but next up for me is to improve my Whip Only world record!
