While 1963 may be the highest production year for the Gibson Hummingbird model in the early 1960s, only a small subset of them were made with Maple back and sides. The majority of the Hummingbirds made were constructed with Mahogany back and side. It's possible that an excess of orders for Hummingbirds caused Gibson to reroute some guitars intended to be Doves to be Hummingbirds instead. For whatever the reason, the Maple back and sides Hummingbirds made in '63 are my favorites.

This Hummingbird is sold but I'm looking to find another. You can contac me here to sell a Gibson: https://truevintageguitar.com/pages/s...

This vintage Gibson Hummingbird is a great example of that less common variation. It's 100% original except for a new Rosewood reproduction bridge in place of the original plastic bridge. The plastic bridge tends to warp and lack the stability that the top of an acoustic guitar requires to resist the pull of the string tension. The new bridge is a perfect reproduction of the '63 Gibson Rosewood bridge in both material, contour, and size. The guitar plays and sounds like a dream as a result.
