Not A Reissue: An Original 1966 Gibson EDS-1275 Doubleneck! (1 of only 4!)
A real vintage Gibson guitar with two necks?? They existed as far back as the 1930s, but the EDS-1275 (Electric Double Spanish) model with 6 string and 12 string neck debuted in 1958 with a thin hollow body. The solid body electric doubleneck Gibson was available when the model transitioned away from the hollowbody in 1962. Very few were made, but 1966 is one of the lowest production years for the model (if the shipment totals are to be believed). I think they're largely accurate for this year. The Slash doubleneck that Gibson Custom made is a reissue of this exact guitar but in Black finish.

While it might look heavy, this Gibson guitar weighs in at about 10.5 lbs. That's certainly on the heavy side for an electric guitar, but many 1970s era Gibson single neck guitars weigh just about as much. This EDS-1275 is so incredibly clean and without any repairs, replaced parts, or modifications. I purchased it from the son of its second owner. He believes that his dad purchased it used when it was only a few years old.
One of my favorite parts of Gibson doubleneck guitars is the three position switch that selects the output from either one side or both at the same time. A player can select one neck, play the other neck, and let the sympathetic vibrations bloom through the active side and out into the amp.
