My final Geometry Dash 2.1 video.
time for the huge emotional 2.1 rant i've been waiting 5 months to write!
yes, i'm uploading 2 days in a row, because i wanted to get these 2 videos out for the 7th anniversary of geometry dash 2.1. it's kind of insane to think about, that 7 years ago we were playing the same update as the one we were playing just a month ago. and i don't mean it in a bad way necessarily. sure, it would've been nice to get more regular updates, but it's just really interesting to look at what your life was like 7 years ago, probably completely different from what it is now, and remember that you still went home and played the very same game. in that way, 2.2 feels like the beginning of a completely new era, as cheesy as it sounds. platformer mode has completely changed the way i play the game and i'm really excited to see what people make in the editor. i genuinely think the gd level editor is the best one to ever exist, even better than minecraft in some ways. with what we've already seen in 2.1, i can't even imagine what people can do with an editor that has 100x more content than before.
i also think the gd community is truly one of the most special communities for any game ever, in both good and bad ways. few other games have had to wait this long for an update, and that long wait has just brought us closer and allowed creators to flourish in ways that we never thought were possible; limitations that forced creators to think in ways they wouldn't have if they used the modern 2.2 editor. of course, there are many bad parts about the community, but it's important to focus on the good ones, because there are more than it may seem at first glance, when all the biggest news in gd is about hackers and pedos.
obviously i was supposed to write this a month ago when 2.2 originally came out, but i honestly wasn't expecting it to come out so soon so i procrastinated it, and once it actually came out i basically no-lifed the game and didn't have any time to finish this. this video is actually almost a complete replica of one i made in august, with the expectation that 2.2 might come out during gd10. obviously that didn't happen, so i've just updated it to match my final stats as of december 19th 2023, and some other things that have happened since then. i don't expect anyone to care about this video, it's just a personal "journal" of sorts to remember my accomplishments and favorite levels during 2.1, even if i didn't do anything super notable besides maybe my 24 hour star record. some of my favorite experiences during 2.1, to name a few, include: building my rated level roselily, beating rash with rykiion, watching technical beat tartarus in early 2020, grinding easy demons on my phone in 2018, and the list goes on. i've gone from less than 1k stars to 143k during 2.1, and gained over 2500 demons. i also totally just yesterday remembered about the comment i said i would delete in 2.2, so i thought it'd be funny to add that as a little after-credits scene.
the last thing i wanna say goes back to the whole 7 years thing. it's so wild to me that 2.1 came out when i was in elementary school, and now i'm nearly done with high school. all the games i've obsessed over, the friends i've made, the classes i've taken, all of them happened during update 2.1. and i'm not saying that in a bad way, i'm just saying it's so interesting to think that geometry dash 2.1 has been a constant in my life since i was so much younger. despite everything that's changed in my life, i would always come home and load up the same version of geometry dash. yes, i know that's really cheesy, but this game matters a lot to me considering how (almost concerningly) high my playtime is, so i think it's justified. 2.2 is absolutely insane, it's an entirely new era for the community, and i'm so so so excited to see what it has in store.
i know absolutely no one will read this but that's okay lol. also why can i write all this so easily but not the 2-page essay i have due in english tomorrow 😭
