AC generator or alternator– machine produces an alternating current
An alternator has 3 phase winding on the stator and DC field winding on the rotor.
The output current can taken directly from the fixed armature windings without passing through brush contacts.
The stationary armature coils can be insulated easily (30 kV).
Only two slip rings are required for d.c. supply
Since the excitation current is small, the slip rings and brush gear required are of light construction.
Salient or projecting pole type rotor
Cylindrical type rotor
This video can be used as a study material for all first year B.E/B.Tech engineering students of all universities.
