Earthing is a process of connecting metallic bodies of electrical equipment to earth through a low resistance wire.
Why earthing is important?
Protection from electrical shock
Alternate path for fault current
Protection of electrical equipment
Common reference point
Earthing is done at 2 levels
1. System earthing - current carrying parts are connected to earth
2. Equipment earthing- non current carrying parts are connected to earth
