Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the next generation of Google's well-known product, designed to measure everything related to user behavior on your website. GA4 is truly the next generation, as the underlying analytics logic has changed: it analyzes data based on events rather than sessions, and the new analytics also features a new data collection model.

Consequently, switching from Universal Analytics to GA4 is a bit more complicated than simply clicking "update." Even after the switch, which is manageable in principle, GA4 users will face a number of significant challenges, as it is, in a sense, a completely new product. To help those new to Google Analytics 4, we've created this course.

In this lesson, we'll cover two categories of events: built-in, also known as predefined, and optional. Built-in events are always tracked when you install Analytics; these include first visit, page view, user engagement, and start session. Optional events are included with enhanced analytics and must be enabled separately.
