Welcome to Textla! In this video, Jake demonstrates a simple and effective method to split first and last names that are in the same column within a Google Spreadsheet. Whether you're managing a contact list or organizing data, this tutorial will help you separate names into distinct columns effortlessly.
1. Insert a New Column:
Right-click on the column header (e.g., "A") where your first names are located.
Select "Insert 1 column to the right."
2. Split Text to Columns:
Click into the first name column.
Go to "Data" in the menu.
Select "Split text to columns."
Choose "Space" as the separator.
3. Rename Columns:
Rename the new column to "Last Name."
Add "First Name" to the original column header.
And there you have it! Your names are now split into separate columns. If you need help doing this in an Excel spreadsheet, check out the link to that video below.
