"The title of this volume is maybe deceptive. Fanciful stories of Cape Cod are, indeed, however from a more extensive perspective that is the vibe and the premise of a lifestyle. These tales and strange notions, characters, and undertakings can't be marked simply Fanciful stories, for they were such a significant piece of life on Cape Cod that to consider the thin land without them would be incomprehensible. The tales I have introduced here are, one might say, valid. Some of them are unique, that is to say, the results of my own creative mind, terminated by the Cape and its set of experiences. Others are pretty much as old as the actual Cape and have been rehashed time and. Still, others have been gathered from discussion with Cape Cod people and from the priceless old books which I have been sufficiently lucky to have made accessible to me."
