Brilliantly inventive, to some degree like Dunsany's blockbuster dream novel, The Lord Of Elfland's Girl (and distributed only two years after it), this similarly engaging, verbally shapely story gets us into contact with the heraldry, imaginativeness, and strange notions of the past Brilliant Period of Spain; with the supernatural crafts of old times- - speculative chemistry, wizardry, mixtures, timberland animals that go knock in the evening, journeys for recondite information, utilization of the Thinker's Stone, and the Catholic church's conflict against the 'Dark Workmanship". Most importantly, Dunsany investigates the numerous baffling properties of shadows and cautions what devastation could come upon you assuming you lose yours. Distributed in 1926.
