Wider Tires & Rims On 10th Gen Honda Civic 2016-22 8J ET45 Running 235/45/R17 Will This Set Up Work?
There has been a lot of questions on online forums for Honda Civic owners and enthusiasts as to whether or not a wider set of tires can be installed on a 10th gen FC/FK on stock rims and suspension. In this video, young DIY auto repair mechanic Aiman will attempt to explore this topic. Tenth generation Honda Civic covers model years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021. We too were looking for the same answers because we found a nice set of aftermarket rims but with wider tires for sales on Craigslist for a dirt cheap price. So here's the story. The after market set of rims and tires we found, the rims are 17 inches in diameter. Our Civic's factory OEM rims are 17x7"wide (7Jx17 H2 ET45). The aftermarket rims are Moda wheels 8" wide (not sure if MD18 or MD30) in gunmetal gray. Searching online we know that the rims can be purchased from TireRack for about $200 each. The specs on the rims are 8Jx17 +45 which is the same as our factory offset (max is +50). The PCD is 5 lug holes x 114.3 bolt pattern (5x4.5) , the Center Bore is 70mm which will fit on Civic 64.1mm CB. Obviously the rims will fit perfectly.
Now the problem is the tires. The tires are a lot wider. They are 235/45/R17Pirelli Sottozero 3 winter/snow tyres. The recommended OEM tire size on our Civic is 215/50/R17. The different in width is about 0.75 inches (9.3" vs 8.5") and we were concerned that they might rub against the strut suspension, brake parts such as calipers or disc and the fender during the cornering. We're not too concern about the rear but the front is a different story.
So we googled and found several Civic owners asking the same questions, here are some of them:

That will definitely work without rubbing on your stock suspension. I had 17x8 ET45 235/45 and had zero issues
You should be okay, its 5mm shorter than 2020 Hatch Sport stock 18". What I have in mind which is: 17x9 (or 9.5) with offset between +25 to +38. Suspension is Buddy Club Sport Coilovers -1.5" lower.
100% absolutely will work perfectly. Matter of fact, 235/45-17 8J ET50 is the OEM size of Euro / UK Civics
By the way, the guy who we bought the set of these wheel from had them mounted on his 2017 Subaru WRX, so if you have a WRX 1st gen VA 2014-2021, then this set up should also work for you.

The 10th gen which replaced the 9th gen in 2015 come in two and four doors coupe and hatchback (DX, EX regardless of whether 1.5L Turbo or 2.0L engine. They are available in 10 trims with different features & configurations - EX, EX-L, EX-L Navi, EX-T, LX, LX-P, Sport, Sport Touring & Touring. 11th gen will be launched in Q4 of 2022.
