Review of 1 ton Shop / Engine Crane from Harbor Freight tools. Evidently it did the job as intended, but we would award it only 3 stars because the boom is not long enough and the legs are not wide enough to support the weight when moving the crane especially if the surface is not leveled.
If you are looking for an Engine or Shop Crane, a One-ton Heavy Duty Pittsburgh Automotive foldable crane from Harbor Freight Tools is really cheap compared to other name brands costing 3 times as much, and you can get it cheaper if you take advantage of Harbor Freight's Super Coupons. However, for a mere $20 to $30 more, you can get a 2-ton Foldable Shop Crane at Harbor Freight. The maximum height of the boom is higher, the reach is longer, and the legs are really stable.
Alternatively, you can also buy one or two-ton Engine Crane from Amazon, especially if there is no Harbor Freight Tools in you area, although the prices might be a little bit more expensive. Here's are a few:

Both HFT 1 and 2-ton units are compact, occuping only 2x2 feet of floor space when folded. The 2-ton Pittsburgh Automotive Foldable Shop / Engine Crane gets 4.5 stars from us, and the only reason for the minus 0.5 star is because there were some missing / wrong size bolt in the box, and we had to go to Lowes to get the replacement carriage bolt. But for those who always frequented Harbor Freight Tools, this kind of mishaps is not unexpected, that's one of the reasons why Harbor Freight's merchandise are really cheap, either lacking quality controls or the products are of poor quality. Yet, they can still be used as intended.
