In this part, I introduce the basic concept of geographical information systems - what they are, what makes them special and what kind of questions we can address with them.
I have started this series in response to a number of requests I've had in the past from geography teachers who want to introduce GIS to their students, but aren't quite sure where to start. geographical information systems can be an incredibly powerful tool for engaging with a whole range of topics across both human and physical geography, and are actually quite simple to get started with once you understand a few basic concepts.
