It is Easter season and you can not go without making hot cross buns. Here is a simple recipe you will want to try.
INGREDIENTS
3 3/4 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
1/2 tsp nutmeg
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp lemon zest
4 oz melted butter
1 egg
1/4 cup raisins, 1/4 cup cranberries
(add more if you like raisins, currents or cranberries)
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 packet of active dry yeast. 1 packet is 8 grams.
1 3/4 cups warm milk.
Method
Add 2 tablespoon sugar in milk. Stir
Add yeast to milk and set aside to rise for 10 minutes.
Add together flour, cinnamon, ground spice, nutmeg, salt, lemon zest, egg, melted butter , remaining sugar, raisins and cranberries.
(Note: In the video I added the melted butter right after the egg. I just forgot to put the word 'butter' on the screen but that's where I added it.)
Once yeast is raised, add vanilla.
Start mixing dough with hand or spoon. Add yeast mixture, and mix into flour to make a soft dough.
Knead well about 10 minutes until smooth .
Put little oil on inside bottom of bowl and place dough to rise for about 1 hour or until double in size.
Grease pan with butter
Cut dough into round shapes and place in baking pan.
Leave to rise another half hour.
Meanwhile, make flour paste.
You will need 3 tablespoons of flour and 2 tablespoons of water.
Put flour paste in a plastic sandwich bag , make a tiny hole at bottom of point, squeeze to draw cross on each bun.
Bake in oven at 350 degrees for about 40 to 45 minutes.
Once taken out oven, brush top of buns with butter.
This recipe is awesome and is definitely a must try for your Easter treat.
SERVE with pop or warm milk.
