Frippertronics dual looping with Strymon Iridium, HX Effects and EHX 45000
The Strymon Iridium is proving to be the perfect solution for my Frippertronics work. It's so simple to dial in a good tone and it takes pedals before and after it very well. I'm running my compressors, overdrive and fuzz before the Iridium and splitting the output. The first feed goes to the Line 6 HX Effects for looping, reverb, echo and harmonized delay. The Strymon BigSky is in the stereo effects loop of the HX Effects and is providing the pitch-shifted reverb. The second feed goes into the EHX 45000 looper and then into Ableton Live where I'm using the Reason Rack plugin with it's amazing Echo tape delay and Quartet Chorus Ensemble. Everything is mixed and mastered with iZotope Neutron and Ozone.
I think I've spent the better part of 4 years trying to create a looping system with video recording that lets me simply turn everything on and start making music. It's been much much harder than I imagined, but with the current setup I'm closer than ever. There are a few technical challenges to work out. For example, the EHX 45000 has horrible preamps that distort in a disgusting way if overdriven at all, so I'm working on putting a compressor/limiter in front of it. Also, I need a way to pass a third feed of the guitar signal with no loopers straight in to Ableton Live so that I can play melodic phrases and not have them recorded as a part of the loop track.
