In fact, it would be the last time anyone ever attempted to borrow a cup of sugar in the history of neighbors. A tradition dating back to the very invention of sugar itself (1953), all brought to a screeching halt simply because it felt "cliche," as if its deep roots in our culture were seemingly unimportant. There's a lesson here, but I'm wasted at the moment.
