Turn Signal
So traumatized was he by this horrific event that he could never make a right turn again. This worked out well for him since everything he needed in life could be accomplished by making left turns around his city block - the library, the gym, the health food store, then back to his place. Conversely, everything that was found by making right turns was so bad for him - the poison store, the chaos boutique, the donkey show bar - that his life rapidly improved. He met a lovely girl at the gym, settled down in the library, and their eight children began managing the health food store. He couldn't move back into his apartment because the donkeys took it over, but you know what? It didn't matter.
