From Place de Trocadero to the Eiffel Tower
Paris probably has more familiar landmarks than any other city in the world. And a sightseeing tour of the popular attractions cannot be done in a day or two. So for this holiday tour of Paris, I and my two travel buddies went on a 2-day hop-on, hop-off open top double-decker bus tour of these must-see sights on our first three days in the enchanting city of lights. The tour provides recorded commentary in several languages for an interesting orientation on every site we visited.
We began our first sightseeing tour at Place de Trocadero, where we met the bus, and ended at the Latin Quarter. The first attraction we passed by is the Paris Aquarium, now known as CinéAqua, located at the 16th Arrondissement at the heart of Paris and is entirely underground. This innovative aquarium combines marine life with multi-media installations three cinemas with over 25 different screens that are networked and managed by a single broadcast centre and can store over 500 hours of film at any one time.
The first stop is at Champs de Mars where the symbol of Paris is best seen, the Eiffel Tower, the tallest structure in Paris. This Parisian icon was named after its engineer designer, Gustave Eiffel, and built between 1887 and 1889 as an entrance arch for the Exposition Universelle, which was a World's Fair marking the centennial celebration of the French Revolution. When the Eiffel Tower was built, it was met with resistance, as the public felt it was an eyesore, even though Parisians today would not wish to be without it, as it is widely considered to be a striking piece of structural art!
