Over the last few days, there were rumours that Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton would step down from racing in F1. This was reinforced in the eyes of many after Mercedes failed to replicate their performance from Australia in Baku. Hamilton has now responded while addressing multiple media outlets

Hamilton started off by suggesting that the team still has a positive mentality
“The mentality in the team is great”
“There is such a winning mind-set and everyone is focused on progressing and getting to where we know we can get to”
Mercedes were expected to make a step forward in Baku. Instead, they finished behind Ferrari and Aston Martin
Hamilton responded to suggestions that Baku was a failure
“It’s just taking some steps. I don’t think there are any mistakes, there are any lessons or this is a failure”
“I think this is just the build to getting where we need to be”
He signed off by giving his thoughts on the retirement rumours
“I’m thinking long term. I don’t want to stay here for another year”
“I want to stay longer”
