Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is currently on his longest winless run and despite Mercedes bringing in a raft of upgrades to Spain, they are still nowhere close to being as quick as Red Bull and Max Verstappen. Lewis has now given his thoughts as quoted by Racing News 365

Lewis started off by speaking about the future
“There’s a huge amount of work and studying and improvement that we hopefully will have coming in the future”
He further highlighted what they need to do to catch up to Red Bull
“Naturally, [Red Bull] should also be progressing through the year”
“So, we need to be taking big chunks out of them with every step we take”
He signed off by speaking about their biggest challenge in accomplishing this
“They’re so far ahead and ultimately Max will continue to win this year”
“But that means they can start on their development for next year sooner, earlier than anyone else if they haven’t already”
“And that’s the danger”

McLaren CEO Zak Brown clarified that he “had conversations with Red Bull a few months ago as part of the due diligence in exploring what’s available in the market in terms of power unit for 2026”
“But at the moment we are quite advanced in our negotiations with Mercedes HPP”
“So, there’s no conversation ongoing with Red Bull”
