We have a new little addition...
One of our most recent rescues included a number of pregnant females. Early last week, staff came across an infant short tailed fruit bat pup hanging all alone in our flight enclosure. He was cold, with with no mother in sight. When new mothers enter a sanctuary environment, they do not realize their life has taken a huge turn for the better and they sometimes abandon their pups due to stress.
A caretaker immediately rushed the baby into the clinic and warmed him in an incubator. This little pup has been named "Scrumpy" by staff, and is currently being hand-raised. He is now just about two weeks old, and is doing wonderfully with our caretakers. Once he is old enough to fly, we will slowly reintroduce him to his colony, where he will spend the rest of his life with others of his kind.
All of this is thanks to our supporters! You allow us to offer the very best care that we can to bats like little Scrumpy, and it just wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for your support. Baby bat season is just a few weeks away for our native species, and soon dozens upon dozens of pups will be coming into care. That means months of individual care for each baby, and along with that comes expenses for things like formula, medical care and supplies, mealworms, enrichment, and transport costs. It all quickly adds up, and we are so extremely grateful for the assistance you provide in keeping us going. The more support we have, the more bats we can save! THANK YOU! ❤
