Pop Star Peepney Pursued by the Peeperazzi--2009 Diorama Based on Britney Spears and the Paparazzi
I created this diorama as an entry in the annual 2009 Peeps Diorama Contest that was sponsored by The Washington Post. It's basically a lampoon of the intense media frenzy that sprung up when pop star Britney Spears began to suffer from mental health issues between late 2006-early 2008 (when her family seized legal control of her estate and she was briefly sent to a hospital psychiatric ward). During her troubled period her every move was documented by the paparazzi regardless of whether she was filling her car with gas or buying a frap from Starbucks or buying junk food from a local convenience store.
I tried to recreate the media frenzy that surrounded Britney. I took a photo of a local Starbucks to use as a backdrop for the diorama. I used a Peeps Easter chick to portray Peepney as she was leaving a Starbucks with her coffee in hand. (I made her coffee cup using a dollhouse miniature-sized cup.) I had the various Peeps portray the peeperazzi (paparazzi) as they were stalking Peepney in order to get a photo of her. I used camera-shaped stickers stuck to cardstock in order to create camera props for the peeperazzi. The Halloween ghost Peeps portrayed the security guards who were trying to block the peeperazzi from getting too close to Peepney. The sides of the diorama showed Photoshop-altered magazine covers depicting the rise of Peepney's pop star career and her near-fall due to mental instability.
Despite my effort, my diorama didn't win nor was it even included in the Honorabe Mention category.
