The Baltimore and Washington, DC That Tourists Rarely See Episode 36 Rhodes' Tavern
There is a suburban shopping center in College Park, Maryland that has something extra for history buffs. Next to the Sarku Japan restaurant there are ruins of Rhodes' Tavern, whose biggest claim to fame is that George Washington dined there and he indicated that he did so in her personal diary. When Rhodes' Tavern was burned down a few years later, it was replaced by Brown's Tavern, which was later incorporated into the Del Haven Motel complex of cottages until the entire enterprise went out of business just a few years later. Everything was torn down and replaced with IKEA, an apartment complex, and a shopping center but the ruins from the original Rhodes' Tavern is still there and available for anyone to explore while shopping and dining.
