Nut and Geb, Sky and Earth in Egyptian Mythology
Nut the Sky Goddess and Geb the Earth God are two of the most important deities in ancient Egyptian mythology. Their story of eternal embrace and separation reflects the Egyptian creation myth, shaping the cosmos, the cycles of life and death, and the relationship between gods and humans. Drawing on sacred passages from the Pyramid Texts, some of the oldest religious writings in the world, we uncover how Nut and Geb were honored as symbols of fertility, rebirth, and divine balance. The Egyptians saw Nut as the vast sky arched above, swallowing the sun each night and birthing it again each morning, while Geb represented the fertile earth that gave life to all beings. This video combines mythology, ancient texts, and symbolism to reveal how the union of sky and earth defined the spiritual world of ancient Egypt and its vision of the universe.
