A lo largo de su vida trabajó en 120 obras teatrales, 60 películas y 15 series de televisión. Ganador del Óscar al mejor actor y Mejor película por la película Hamlet. Recibió en 1946 el premio Óscar honorífico por su trabajo en la película Enrique V y otro más en 1979 por toda su carrera profesional.
Hijo de un sacerdote anglicano, a los 10 años llamó la atención al interpretar a Bruto en la representación teatral de Julio César de William Shakespeare. Siete años más tarde interrumpió sus estudios en Oxford, para estudiar Arte Dramático en Londres. A finales de los años 1920, debutó como actor de teatro y no tardó en convertirse en un gran especialista en Shakespeare.
Laurence Olivier ha sido descrito por diversos medios especializados en el cine, tanto por las escuelas de actuación y opinión de propios actores y público como el más grande actor de la historia. The son of an Anglican priest, at age 10 he drew attention by playing Brutus in William Shakespeare's theatrical performance of Julius Caesar. Seven years later he interrupted his studies at Oxford, to study Dramatic Art in London. In the late 1920s, he made his debut as a stage actor and soon became a great specialist in Shakespeare.
Laurence Olivier has been described by various media specialized in cinema, both by acting schools and the opinion of the actors themselves and the public as the greatest actor in history. The way in which Olivier approached each role where I work was very meticulously elaborated, where he changed his appearance, tone of voice and body movement.
His own description of his technique was "working from the outside in"; to the following: "I will never be able to act like myself, I have to have a pillow in my sweater, a false nose or a mustache or a wig ... I cannot look like and be another person.
