At age 4, Jazzmyn’s family were transferred to South Africa. The country was under a segregational system called Apartheid. Life was quite different during those years compared to how it is now. One of the many shocking memories was that all African women had to cover their hair in public the same as Slaves in America were forced to. Previous to moving, she had not yet been exposed to racism. So forced hair covering, was always something that did not make sense to her because it seemed completely unfair. Even though now society no longer has these enforcements in place the stigma still unfortunately has remained until present day.
