Week 18: Grand Canyon, Route 66 & Final Prep Before the PCT 🇺🇸
This is the final part of our Arizona & Utah road trip — and the last chapter before we begin the Pacific Crest Trail.
We start the week with a classic motel breakfast in Page, Arizona before heading to Lees Ferry in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, where we hike the Spencer Trail. Even while dealing with a cold, the views make it worth every step.
Along the way, we spot condors at Navajo Bridge, visit Horseshoe Bend and take in the vast landscapes around Lake Powell.
Reaching the Grand Canyon, we hike to Ooh Aah Point and Cedar Ridge — and unexpectedly get to experience it in complete silence, with the trail almost entirely to ourselves.
The journey continues along Route 66 through Williams and Seligman, soaking in the atmosphere during the Historic Route 66 Centennial — classic diners, old-school Americana and a few Cars movie moments along the way.
Back in Phoenix, reality sets in. The Pacific Crest Trail is right around the corner, and there’s still a lot to prepare. Excitement, nerves and a bit of overwhelm — all part of stepping into something big.
Next stop: Campo, California.
