This is for all the dreaming children out there... "Yadamon" (also called "Yadamon: Magical Dreamer") was a somewhat popular short-format anime created by Suezen in 1992 and presented by Studio TAC and NHK. Each episode was roughly 10 minutes long and involved the misadventures of the titular Yadamon, a novice witch girl who lives in a magical world inhabited by fairies and other creatures. After causing havoc in the Witch Forest, she is sent to the human world along with her guardian fairy (Taimon / Timon) by her mother as a means to grow and atone (but also because her mom likes human-made goods, especially books), but it's not what one would expect... it's very hi-tech and most biological animals have gone extinct, being replaced by sophisticated machines. It's here that Yadamon stumbles upon her first human friend, a boy named Jean, and she starts learning about Earthlings with him and his family until outside forces start conspiring against them. She also becomes a huge fan of electronics in the process.

After running for 170 episodes, there was one more item created for Yadamon fans: Super Famicom's "Yadamon: Wonderland Dream". In basic terms, it is a simple point and click adventure game with a few mini-games and is geared towards children -- it can be cleared with no knowledge of Japanese and in under thirty minutes if you really rush through it. It stands out simply for its bright colors, limited but catchy music (some of which are renditions from the show) and many sprite animations. Released towards the end of 1993, it was published by Tokuma Shoten but is more notable for being one of "Stings" earlier works (the first games to really put them on the map was the Square-published "Treasure Hunter G", the "Evolution" series and the International release of "Riviera: The Promised Land"). The game has a lot of optional things to fiddle with and not much of a plot: Yadamon, Taimon and Jean are looking for three crystals (Courage, Friendship and Love) to rescue her mom from the forces of Chris (Kris).

While Yadamon is generally a light-hearted series, the game doesn't touch on the darker aspects of the later parts of the anime and is mainly a short, self-contained adventure with only the slightest nods to the anime (optional stuff like finding out who Jean likes, etc.). In fact, it doesn't really touch on much of anything and is over before you know it (a few circles even consider it a kusoge), but I feel its picture book aesthetic will still entertain young audiences. It is strictly a game for fans and kids and probably won't appeal to anyone else unless you want to see what Sting was doing before they became great. This is a video of the game from start to finish, so not really a sample at this point (but titled such for algorithmic purposes). Enjoy.
