Whether you’re writing a book or a script, the PLAN is the key to writing your Act Two.
It will give you the action line for the entire story.
As we’ve been talking about, in the first act, the first 30 minutes of a movie and the first 100 or so pages of a book, the hero/ine is introduced, and that hero/ine either has or quickly develops a DESIRE that is focused by the INCITING INCIDENT.

The hero/ine might have a PROBLEM that needs to be solved, or someone or something they WANT, or a bad situation that they need to get out of, pronto.
Their reaction to that problem or situation is to formulate a PLAN, even if that plan is at first vague or even completely subconscious!
Once the audience or reader knows what the plan is, they can subconsciously relax and go with the story. But If you don’t let them in on the plan, they will feel like the story is going nowhere, and you will lose them. We don’t want that!
The protagonist’s plan (and the competing plan of the antagonist’s) will drive the entire action of your second act. So it’s critical to set up the plan by the end of Act I or at the very beginning of Act II at the latest.
