In this video I show you a rare find: an Alpine crested newt (Triturus carnifex) or Italian crested newt, which was hidden under a wooden board in my garden. This newt is an endangered amphibian species that only occurs in the Alps and northern Italy. It has a characteristic crest on its back and can grow up to 18 cm long. Females often have a yellow ridge line, males develop a dorsal crest during the mating season. Watch the video and find out more about this fascinating inhabitant of the Alps! 🐸
