In this video, I show you the fascinating caterpillars of the processionary moth (Thaumetopoeinae), a subfamily of the tooth moth (Notodontidae). These butterflies are mainly found in Africa, the Mediterranean region and Southern Europe and have specialised on various tree species. In spring, the caterpillars form long rows that look like a procession in search of a suitable place to pupate. However, they can also be dangerous, as their stinging hairs contain a poison that can trigger allergic reactions in humans. Therefore, you should not touch them or get too close to them. Have a look at how these fascinating animals live!
