Environment Agency Denied My Sewage Pollution Report
After reporting what I believed to be a serious sewage pollution incident on the Bristol Avon, both Wessex Water and the Environment Agency responded that there was no sewage pollution as I had reported. The story was later investigated by BBC Points West, who interviewed both me and Wessex Water.
This video follows the investigation from the original pollution report through to the BBC coverage, Wessex Water’s response, the Environment Agency’s involvement, and what I found when I returned to the river after subsequent flooding. Did the clean-up solve the problem, or was it simply the beginning of a much bigger issue?
As an angler, I spend hundreds of hours each year on the Bristol Avon. Instead of catching fish, I found wet wipes and sewage debris hanging from riverside trees after floodwater receded. The investigation explores what caused it, how it was reported, and why protecting our rivers matters to everyone - not just anglers.
