This is my first CAD drawing, I used Autodesk Inventor 2016.

The toolbox is a close replica of Adam Savage's Toolbox from Mythbusters. I started off by copying dimensions from other drawings and making my own "improvements". After I became more familiar with Inventor and thought through it some more, I decided to make the box more faithful to the original design, otherwise I figured it would be a bit pointless going through with it. Also, Adam would likely have thought through it carefully himself.

So, this isn't a carbon copy of any existing design, it uses reference photos where Adam has a measuring tape held against his own boxes at different angles, and I counted the rivets. It isn't going to be exact because I'm not in his shop with a set of calipers ;).

Materials were sourced first so I wouldn't be faced with later design issues, even the hinge is replicated from something I have available. I didn't model the latches or the handles, they weren't available during design.

I can say if you're learning Inventor or CAD in general, this is a great project to get started, it has many design challenges even though it's simple on the surface.

It's ready for the actual build, stay tuned.
