Power finally on tonight so I can do the upload, many thanks to the crews that gave us our power back. My thoughts are with those who are adversely affected. We have no deaths or injuries recorded for this storm.
I hope this gives a good perspective of Marcia up close and personal, not through a window or standing in wind where all you hear is whooshing. I was in a pretty safe spot, a little alcove on my front balcony with brick work either side, and the wind was blowing directly parallel to it, so any flying debris would have hit the house or gone right by. Still, I didn't want to hang around there for too long, it was far too intimidating.
What I wanted to do was record that memory of the sound if it's at all possible to reproduce on a sound system. That freight train. Almost demonic undertones like the thing was talking under its breath, due to the wild gust changes and the collective noise from wind racing over a huge area. Though not in the video there are the inevitable bangs and crashes of things giving in to the power of the wind. Edit: listen to this on a decent sound system turned up, it's pretty close to the noise I heard while standing outside.
My house stood up well, but this would have been truly frightening for those in non cyclone rated homes which are plentiful in Yeppoon.
I'll take some photos of the surrounding area, large trees were stripped of their leaves and ripped apart.
